Cambridge based engineering software company Quillion Ltd placed into administration

London  Cambridge- based Quillion Ltd, has been placed into administration.  Simon Glyn and Nicholas O’Reilly of Vantis, the AIM listed accountancy, tax and business advisory firm have been appointed as joint administrators for the company. Michael Charles of Amco Agency has been retained to negotiate a transfer on behalf of the administrator.

Quillion, the subject of a management buyout in October 2003 is based in the Cambridge business park and employs 5 staff. The company provides data management to companies operating in technical engineering environments such as oil and gas, rail transportation, chemical processes, utilities and defence. Their products allow clients to control, share and maintain accurate technical data to reduce risks and engineering costs and increase plant availability.

Quillion’s past customers included Network Rail, Shell, DSM and Japan Energy.  Amec Oil and Gas who implemented DataManager for its Shearwater Oil and Gas Platform project in a joint venture with Shell remain substantial users of the software.  The company has invested £5M in product portfolio development product which runs to around a million lines of code.

Quillion has been looking for a buyer or partner for some time having concluded that it was too small a company to exploit its own intellectual property successfully.

According to Michael Charles of Amco: “The company offers an excellent technical capability as endorsements from their client show but found access to larger contracts limited by their size. We have already had several approaches by possible buyers so hopefully this will allow us to select the best purchaser for both the employees and the creditors”.
